The new WHOLE FOODS MARKET in Sarasota is AWESOME! The new grocery store on University is finally open and it’s huge! Plenty of grocery items, fresh meats, produce and cheeses… There’s rows and rows of hot to go meals and salad bar options plus sushi, sandwiches and hot pizza! Of course there’s great smelling homemade soaps and healthy beauty and baby products too. The store is huge with lots of variety. I love shopping for groceries in a nice clean store that offers fresh options and good food. Yes, it’s more expensive that your average grocery store but a way better experience that shopping at Wal-Mart! If you’re in Sarasota you should check it out.
I love California Pizza Kitchen in Sarasota. We’ve been here a few times now and the food is always delicious and the service is always great! Even when there’s a wait, we always end up getting seated quickly. The pizza isn’t huge so it’s the perfect size for two people. I love to start with the wedge salad… so good! For pasta, I reccomend the Garlic Fettuccine Alfredo and the Bolognese Spaghetti with Meat Sauce. Two very yummy options! My favorite drink is the Berry Sangria! They have many great beers on tap also which is what my husband enjoys. The warm bread served with olive oil is a nice complimentary treat when seated. Don’t leave without saying yes to dessert! Any option is good. The dessert coffees are delicious too! If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy dinner and drinks with friends or a date night with your mate, this is the place for go! Great food, great atmosphere and great drinks! What more could you want?!
Our new favorite dining spot! Literally one of the best places that I’ve eaten at in the 6 years that we have lived here. Dinner was perfect for a rainy day in Sarasota. The place is a locals place off the beaten path, but is certainly no secret. We were lucky to get there when they opened and was in the first group of people to be seated. Within 30mins of opening the place was packed with an hour wait! To drink, my husband had beer… Cigar City Lager… and I had the fresh made Sangria. Both were yummy and deserving of a second round. As an appetizer, we had their boiled peanuts. Yes, I said boiled peanuts! Any place that serves boiled peanuts is already a favorite in my book! So good! For dinner, my husband had the Jambalaya which he said was really good and equal to NOLA and I had the Cheese Grits with Shrimp and Andouille Sausage and it was amazing! I’m very particular about shrimp&grits and this one is in the top 2 of the best shrimp and grits that I’ve had in a restaurant. The first being the Fish House in Pensacola. We were so full but couldn’t leave without getting dessert! Since the place was so crowded with people waiting for tables and due to being so full, we decided to get the dessert to go and enjoy it tonight while we watch the Grammys. I ordered the Bourbon Pecan Pie and my husband got the Key Lime Pie. I’m sure both will be as amazing as the rest of our meal. If you’ve never eaten at Owen’s Fish Camp in downtown Sarasota, you’re missing out! I highly recommend you give this place a try!!!
This rustic locals spot that’s tucked away on a wooded lot on the Manatee River in Ellenton is the place to be! Woody’s offers a 300+ seated dining space that includes tiki hut tables right on the water, indoor dining and outside umbrella covered patio seating. People travel by boat, car and motorcycle to enjoy the live music, the awesome drinks made at one of their 3 bars and the great food that’s made to order! Woody’s is always crowded so if you can’t find a place to park, take advantage of their FREE valet service. We’ve been coming to Woody’s for years and is just a short 15-30 drive north from Sarasota. Woody’s is nothing fancy, but is a great place to spend time hanging with friends. The food is simple and delicious. I love the grouper bites, the “hot” peel and eat shrimp with ramoulade sauce, the steak and cheese sandwich, the chicken and cheese sandwich, the burgers, the onion rings and my all time favorite… The BLT Salad with lettuce, tomato, crispy bacon, croutons and garlic mayo dressing! It’s so good!!! From the bar my favorite drink is the Jamaica Punch which is a frozen rum drink that is a mixture of Pina Colada and Mango Daiquiri that is perfect for our hot Florida summertime days! If you’ve never been to Woody’s, it’s worth the drive!
I love a place that serves breakfast all day and one of the best breakfast spots in town is at Keke’s Breakfast Cafe in Sarasota off University Parkway! Keke’s is open from 7am-2:30pm and serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. For breakfast my favorite is the buttermilk pancakes, but their menu offers a wide variety of homemade meals that you’re sure to enjoy. YUM!
There are several malt beverages on the market, but few are as good as Cayman Jack Margarita! It’s comes in cans and bottles and can be purchased at most grocery stores. I purchased mine at Target on University Parkway in Sarasota. This bottled margarita is so good and only uses real ingredients. It has 5.9% alcohol and is made with 100% agave nectar, pure cane sugar and organic limes! Give it a try!
The Rusty Bucket in Sarasota is everything you want in a neighborhood sports-bar. I love the relaxing tavern feel, the variety of drinks and beers and more than anything else, the comfort food that’s made from scratch! You can’t go wrong here if you’re looking for a place to enjoy drinks and food with friends. Hang out in the bar, in the main dining area or outside. It’s great for a relaxing date night also! Tonight my husband and I went after work… I ordered the steak and cheese sandwich with sweet potato fries and had a glass of the freshly made red Sangria. My husband ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich with their signature seasoned fries and had a cold glass of Guineas Stout. Both meals were made perfectly and were delicious. It was a great relaxing meal for a Thursday night and was less that $45 which included the 20% tip. The Rusty Bucket Restaurant and Tavern is located at 257 N Cattlemen Rd Unit 81 in Sarasota directly across from UTC Mall and is worth a try!
I love Lido Key Beach! It’s my absolute favorite beach in SWFL!!! I like that it has a large parking lot and that the beach isn’t very wide so you don’t have a long walk to reach the water like other beaches in the area. The concession stand is known for their Sunday lobster rolls, but I also love the tuna wraps, the chicken salad on grilled sourdough bread and the cheese burgers!!! All the food is really good and affordable! There’s also restrooms, a gift shop, a swimming pool and picnic tables. On the beach you can feel safe with Lifeguards on duty 7 days a week year round 10am-4:45pm daily. With more than 3,000 ft of white sand and shells, Lido Beach is located on Lido Key by St. Armand’s Circle and is a great beach in a great location! Check it out!
There are several farmer markets in and around Sarasota on the weekends in the morning part of the day. But if you’re like me and want fresh local produce at a more convenient day and time, then Detwiler’s Farm Market is the place for you! Detwiler’s is open 8am-7pm Monday-Saturday and is closed on Sunday. Detwiler’s offers fresh local produce, meats and bakery items all at an affordable price. It’s better quality food and is less expensive than the larger grocery chains. There are 3 Detwiler’s in the area, two in Sarasota and one in Venice. Check out their Facebook page to see the specials of the week! Detwiler’s is a great place to shop! Check it out!!!
A day at Lido beach makes me hungry and thirsty for Shrimp Poboy’s and Daiquiris! For this I head to the Daiquiri Deck at Saint Armands Circle. There’s also one in Siesta Key that we enjoy when going to the beach there. The shrimp are lightly breaded and the bread is fresh and soft. Add lettuce and tomato and you’ve got a really yummy sandwich. I love the seasoned crinkle fries too! Of course at Daiquiri Deck it’s not a meal without a frozen daiquiri or two to wash it down with! This is what’s good today!!! Enjoy 🙂
